One of the greatest gifts but also the greatest challenge we face as humans is communication. All relationships, business or personal, require communication. Communication implies a common language, or understanding of that language. It is no coincidence that cultures form around language, a way of sharing knowledge.
Communication requires at least five parts:
If any of these parts is missing, then no meaningful communication takes place.
In speech the participants take turns acting as the speaker and as the receiver; in writing, the roles are played out with different names--the author and the reader, etc.
