A simple 2-dimensional model used by Newfield Training to describe how leaders can choose to control their emotions. 6 Key emotions are identified:
- Emotion, location
-
- Fear, Energy:High Proximity: Distant
- Anger, Energy:High Proximity: Near
- Sad, Energy:Low Proximity: Distant
- Tender, Energy: Low Proximity: Close
- Eroticism, Energy: Medium/Low Proximity:Close.
- Joy: Energy: Neutral Proximity: Neutral
By identifying your emotion and locating it on the grid, it should be easier to visualize how to move from one emotion to the other, and what other emotions will come up in the way as you traverse from one emotion to the other.
Remember this is just a model/a map, it does not go into great detail of the extreme complexity of human emotion.
Exercise:
- how do you live each of these emotions out? How can you center yourself?
- imagine a unique emotion, and "pin" it to the graph as a fuction of Proximity and Energy.
