Devices using wireless power, inductive charging, have actually been around for some time, such as charging stands for electric tooth brushes and smart cards powered by the radio waves transmitted by the readers.

Nowadays the transmission of power wirelessly is more efficient and is being used to power devices like laptops. The transmission of power wirelessly has now been made into an international standard called Qi, which should lead to many everyday products becoming completely wireless and battery-less, such as mice and keyboards.

In combination with the recent wireless USB standard other hardware such monitors, TVs, external hard-drives and speakers will all be able to operate completely wirelessly.
